Where to Find Sydney's Top 5 Cheeseburgers
9 March, 2020
Issac Martin goes by the Instagram handle @issac_eatslot. Which is appropriate, as the duties of his employment include that he eats out every day of the working week, at often in excess of 5 venues per day. Having eaten 730 burgers during the last calendar year, and 667 in 2018, we feel safe that he is qualified to give us the low-down on which venues deliver the best cheeseburgers in Sydney. Therefore, without further ado, here are Issac’s Top 5 Sydney cheeseburgers.

5. BUSH
This Redfern eatery seems an unlikely spot to find a killer cheeseburger. The venues slogan is “Bush is about bringing life, green, truth and happiness to people”, and happiness is exactly what you’ll get with a mouthful of their signature cheeseburger. Of the Bush cheesey, Issac says “the beef is like butter and the buns are softer again.” The inside tip is to make it a double for the optimum meat to bun ratio.

4. Joe's Milkbar
If there is ever a burger worth driving an hour for, this is it. Issac says of the Joe’s Milkbar cheeseburger, “it is just so easy to eat. Simple, done well and one of the best smashed patties in Sydney right now.”

3. KromeBurg
This is the one cheesey on the list that you unfortunately cannot grab whenever you are craving meat and buns. Kromeburg is a pop-up run with much less frequency than we would like, by part-time chef and burger wizard Jay. Jay is a master of the smashed patty, and is serious about his art. Every ingredient is carefully considered and every burger crafted for a very specific flavour profile.

2. Burger Point
Burger Point has created quite a reputation for some crazy and indulgent specials, as well as their donut glazed bun the ‘Marvin Glaze’. However, they also turn out what Issac considers the second-best cheeseburger in Sydney. “Arguably the best beef blend in Sydney, making the simplicity of the cheeseburger shine.”

1. Wingmill
The name may lead you to think this Neutral Bay diner is all about Wings, but Issac declares this to be the best American style cheeseburger in Australia, saying it is “4 bites of California in the heart of Sydney”. The Wing Mill Cheesey features a Martins Potato Roll, perfectly smashed beef patty, American Cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles and ‘Mill Sauce’.
