5 Must-Eat Melbourne Panna Cottas
14 April, 2020

Panna cotta is Italian for ‘cooked cream’ and derives its origins from the cookery of the Northern Italian region of Piedmont. Like with a number of foreign culinary creations before, Melbourne’s cafes have taken the traditional panna cotta, adapted, altered and spun it as a Melbourne brunch staple. Here is our list of the 5 must-try Melbourne panna cottas.

Penta Elsternwick
Cafes which don the mark of Melbourne café entrepreneur Julien Moussi feature heavily on this list, and Penta Elsternwick is one of them. The Penta signature Nutella Panna Cotta features nut butter banana sushi, honey joy crumb and toasted marshmallow, meticulously plated in sharp-edged column which stretches the full diameter of the plate.

Miss Frank

The Camberwell café stud has perhaps the most recognisable panna cotta on this list. A steady hand is required to assemble the Cherry Ripe Panna Cotta with dark chocolate granola, sour cherry coulis, marshmellow, chia yoghurt, banana, strawberries, cherries and coconut flakes. An absolute must-try Melbourne panna cotta.

Pango Coffee
Pango Coffee is the Western suburb's newest cafe addition, from the trio behind Kodama and Boma Coffee. When developing the Pango menu, the owners gave head chef Django much creative freedom, which was well utilised with the addition of the Green Tea Panna Cotta, complimented by house toasted granola, strawberries, coconut gel and mint.

Temperance Society

Hughesdale’s Temperance Society has taken the Melbourne brunch panna cotta to new heights, quite literally, with their ‘Chocolate Planet’. The panna cotta itself is a chocolate and orange, and accompanied by an Oreo and pistachio granola with banana brulee. This plate’s ace in the hole is the chocolate bowl, tactfully balanced atop the panna cotta, filled with brownie chunks and diced fruit.
